Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:12-14

Our History

Calvary Chapel of Waupaca began on Sunday, October 16, 2005. Before starting Calvary Chapel of Waupaca, Pastor Dave served at Calvary Chapel of Oshkosh for about 9 years as both elder and assisting Pastor Brian. During that time he completed Calvary Chapel Bible College via distance learning. After completing Bible College, he prayed that the Lord would send him wherever there was a need, and in the spring/summer of 2005 he was called to Waupaca.

Calvary Chapel of Waupaca began as a Sunday night Bible study in the book of John at Nature’s Edge, a retreat center a few miles outside of Waupaca. We met there for 2 years. When it became evident that we would no longer be able to meet at Nature’s Edge, Pastor Dave and the board began to look for a place to meet in town. They left no stone unturned, even looking at a huge, old Catholic church that was left in disrepair for many years.

It became known to the board that there was an elementary school in town for sale. The school district put the building up for bid, but no one had put a bid in on it, and it was vacant for about two or three years. Pastor Dave and the board went through the building and it seemed a perfect fit for the small, young fellowship. The trouble was that the school district had sold another building exactly like it for $380,000 and there was no way that the small fellowship could afford that. But with God all things are possible in His will and His time.

The building went up for bid again in the spring of 2006, and Pastor Dave and the board prayed and decided not to put a bid in on it. In the fall of 2006, the school district decided to divide the property and put the building with 1 ½ acres up for sale for $250,000. All offers had to be in by December. Again the board prayed about it and again decided it was just too much money- so they dropped it and continued looking for other options to move into town. When the school district did not receive an offer from Calvary Chapel, they contacted Pastor Dave and asked why we did not put in an offer. They were told we just could not afford it. The school district told Pastor Dave to give them an offer we could afford, so the board put together an offer the young church could handle and it was subsequently tabled by the school district.

The following spring, 2007, the school district once again called Pastor Dave and said they wanted to talk about the offer. Consequently the building was purchased in the fall of 2007. By God’s grace, the building was paid off and the rest of the property the school district still owned was purchased with cash in 2011.

As our small fellowship grew in the Lord and in numbers, the board saw the need for a bigger sanctuary and began to pray for the Lord’s leading. In the fall of 2012 they met with a builder to begin drawing up plans. After the plans were completed, the elders continued to seek the Lord for His timing for the project. The next few years they waited on the Lord, praying each fall if they should begin the following spring. Finally, in the fall of 2015 the Lord led them to move forward. Construction on the building addition began in April of 2016 and was completed that September. We dedicated the new addition to the Lord on our 11th Anniversary as a fellowship- Sunday, October 16, 2016.

As we have been blessed by God’s provision to meet our physical needs for a place to meet, our focus continues to remain on the spiritual growth and maturity of the members of this fellowship, while reaching out with the truth of God’s word to those who have yet to know Him. We praise God for His faithfulness and His hand on us as we remain steadfast in the teaching of His word, chapter by chapter and verse by verse, allowing the Holy Spirit to mature, teach, lead and guide each of us. All glory to God!
